9 September 2008--the first morning that I gave the house a shot of heat before getting ready for work. Temp in the hallway at the time--65F.

Saw dogs' breath while walking them this morning.

It is supposed to warm up during the week. This is only a taste.

Not ready.

I wish I could send you our heat.

As usual, I was up at three a.m. sweltering, had to turn the fan a notch higher to dry the sweat so I could sleep.

The kitties were snuggled with us in bed more than usual.

I am just not ready to turn the heat on.

We have Maine Coon cats and deliberately let the house get to 55°F at night in the winter just so they’ll deign to come sleep on our ankles. (Otherwise they’re just too well-insulated...) But that’s in Sunnyvale, CA, where it only spends a few months that cold.

65 inside here today too. I listened to all kinds of whining, but resisted turning on the heat. It felt nice to be cool. Doubtless in a few weeks I'll be shivering at 65 again, and begging boys to light a fire to heat the house.

I am not ready for cold yet either. There are still pounds of tomatoes on the vine.
My bramble still has a quart of blackberries on the vine.
I've enjoyed my after dinner walks, and don't want to have to walk during the day.
I've enjoyed listening to the crickets, the cicadas, and the frogs.
I don't want my farmer's market to close down for the winter.
I refuse to look at those leaves that are starting to turn.

I had to dig out the electric blanket to go under the comforter - low 40s here one night, though warmer since, & that's too cold with no insulation in the cottage.
