Gaby had a seizure this evening. AFAIK, it's her first ever. I took her to the emergency vet--by the time we arrived (about 35 minutes), she was pretty much back to normal except for excessive drooling.

Blood work was normal. Xrays didn't show anything bad in the lungs or GI tract, but a radiologist will confirm. Gaby's BP was normal, which is a good sign. If there was something growing in her head, BP could be elevated. They're keeping her on seizure watch overnight. I am hoping to have her back tomorrow.

After everything else is ruled out, the likely conclusion is epilepsy. But there's still a ways to go with all this, so. I'll know more when I know.

She was fine when I left the hospital, although she definitely did *not* want to stay behind. She sat in the middle of the lobby and planted her front feet--the vet had to boost up her rear to get her to move. Which she did, finally, because she is a good little girl.

This came completely out of the blue. Good thoughts, please.

Gaby made it through the night without a repeat seizure. I will be picking her up later this morning. To be honest, the vet didn't expect one, but O/N for observation was the conservative course and I took it. I don't think I would have gotten any sleep otherwise.

IF it's epilepsy, she may not have another seizure for months. The vet said that she doesn't prescribe meds unless spells are frequent (once a month or more). I'll find out more when I pick up the little girl.

I let Gaby off lead when we entered the backyard. She did her usual check of the birdbath area, then sniffed around. But it's hot, and she was thirsty and tired, so she came right inside. She's asleep on the couch now.

King was happy to see her. But now I think he wants lunch, and I want to hold off for a while. Gaby hasn't eaten since 6 y'day evening. Not a big gap, but I would like to try to feed her. She may not want to eat until tonight, but I have to try.

I have a bunch of instructions and info to read. The nurse said that it may never happen again. No one can say. Very much a step-by-step thing.

I'm hoping for "never happen again," personally.

The emergency vet's office provides a copy of the progress notes upon discharge. During her exam, one of the vets described Gaby as a "cute girl." Earlier, she was "bright, alert, and responsive." Someone else noted in the instructions that "She is a sweet girl!"

She is. This shouldn't have happened to her. Dammit.

She's still knocked out on the couch. Sometimes I check to see if she's breathing because I am an idjit.

The Gabster skipped lunch, as I expected, but did eat dinner. I didn't overload, but kept it at about 1/2 her usual intake. Didn't want to overfill her.

My appetite was in the dumpster most of the day, and my kitchen patience with it. Thus did y'day's lamb chops w/ Mediterranean salsa give way to tilapia fish fingers (do fish have fingers?) w/ greens and ketchupy tartar sauce rolled up in a tortilla. With wine.

King ate every meal. The day he doesn't is the day you see me *really* scared.

Gaby is sleeping now. She's pretty much slept solid since she came home--temps are in the 90s and she doesn't care for the heat even when she hasn't had the stuffing knocked out of her. I figure she probably didn't sleep very well in the hospital. Not going to worry tonight. Just going to watch.

With much trepidation, left the house late afternoon for an eye exam. My eyes have gotten a touch better, if you can believe it. Enough that new glasses were in order. So I found a pair of cool green metal frames that I will have in plenty of time for NADWcon, to which I am looking forward like whoa.

I realize that Life is what it is. But sometimes I would like to beat it about the head and neck with a baseball bat.
