The Gabster skipped lunch, as I expected, but did eat dinner. I didn't overload, but kept it at about 1/2 her usual intake. Didn't want to overfill her.

My appetite was in the dumpster most of the day, and my kitchen patience with it. Thus did y'day's lamb chops w/ Mediterranean salsa give way to tilapia fish fingers (do fish have fingers?) w/ greens and ketchupy tartar sauce rolled up in a tortilla. With wine.

King ate every meal. The day he doesn't is the day you see me *really* scared.

Gaby is sleeping now. She's pretty much slept solid since she came home--temps are in the 90s and she doesn't care for the heat even when she hasn't had the stuffing knocked out of her. I figure she probably didn't sleep very well in the hospital. Not going to worry tonight. Just going to watch.

With much trepidation, left the house late afternoon for an eye exam. My eyes have gotten a touch better, if you can believe it. Enough that new glasses were in order. So I found a pair of cool green metal frames that I will have in plenty of time for NADWcon, to which I am looking forward like whoa.

I realize that Life is what it is. But sometimes I would like to beat it about the head and neck with a baseball bat.

Glad that Gaby is home and feeling better. Our golden, Max has epilepsy, which is, we found out, common to the breed. His first seizure was in September '08, was given the epilepsy tag six months later, and has been seizure-free for almost two years (knock wood). When Max had his second seizure, we bought a video camera and set it up on a tri-pod to tape him while he hung out in his kennel all day. Then we'd watch it every evening to see if he had another one. Luckily, he never had a seizure without us there. WE've since relaxed a bit and don't tape him any more, but at night, if he makes a weird noise, it still puts us on edge.

Hope this is Gaby's one and only. It's a scary thing to see.

Did Max have a CT scan to rule out any of the things I really don't want to think about, or did other aspects of his behavior and condition rule those things out? Was he ever on meds?

I have already checked out the cost of nannycams. I'd need a couple because the pups have the run of the house.

I'm glad for Max, and for you. May your hope for Gaby come true.

We never had a CT scan done on Max. The vet did extensive blood-work and didn't see anything alarming, and Max's behavior hadn't changed, so he didn't see the need for a CT scan. I think I would have totally wigged out if the vet suggested one of those!

He's currently on Potassium Bromide (once daily) and Phenobarbital (2x daily). He started out with the Phenobarb doses, which worked at the beginning, and eventually had to start taking the Potassium Bromide when the seizures started up again. It took us a while to find out the best balance that would prevent the seizures and not turn him into a zombie dog, since the Phenobarb made him zone out on the carpet for hours after he took it. Once a year he has to get his med levels checked via blood-work to make sure they are not too high or too low.
