ksmith: (running shoe)
So about a week ago, I tried a mile with my hacked-up shoes. My heel didn't flare up as badly as it did a few weeks ago, but it didn't feel great. I realized that I couldn't risk buying new shoes using catalog guidelines anymore. I needed to go to an actual running shoe store and have someone evaluate my feet.

So, last night I did some online searching, and found a new shop in Libertyville. Stopped by this morning, old shoes in hand. Got sized, walked a little on the store treadmill. Learned a little about shoes. I had been using a Saucony Omni 4 Trail shoe, which was compensating for a pronation problem I didn't have and rubbing against the insides of my heels as a result. I now have some Asics Gel Nimbus VIIIs, considered a "neutral" shoe. I hope they work. The sensation in my heels will probably be around for a while, though.

The shoes are white with light and dark orange accents. Very...bright.

Well, the iBook battery, which is a little over two years old, had let me know that it's on its last legs. For that last couple of months, it has suddenly dumped all charge during the last part of the rundown. First it did it when the charge thingie indicated that I had 30+ minutes of power left. This time, I supposedly had over an hour of working time left. Next thing I knew, the iBook had fallen asleep and would not wake up. Plugged in the A/C, and saw that the battery had drained to nothing.

So, I ordered a new battery. I usually use the A/C, but I do take the iBook to work, and when I reach the point where I can't trust the battery, that's bad.

Batteries. The Achilles heel of any laptop.

...when you work out a tricky bit of political business that you'd glossed over in the first draft.

Uncomfortable with the timing between the actions of Jani and another POV. I feel like I"m leaving the other POV offstage for too long. The switch of two chapters may be enough to fix this. Not sure. I'm building up to the big wrench that drives the rest of the book. The reader already knows what's going on at this point, and they may wonder 'where's so-and-so'.

OTOH, it may move more quickly in the reading than in the writing.

Hot today--high of 90F. Possible storms tonight. I'd say more than likely judging by the way my head aches.
