ksmith: (running shoe)

So about a week ago, I tried a mile with my hacked-up shoes. My heel didn't flare up as badly as it did a few weeks ago, but it didn't feel great. I realized that I couldn't risk buying new shoes using catalog guidelines anymore. I needed to go to an actual running shoe store and have someone evaluate my feet.

So, last night I did some online searching, and found a new shop in Libertyville. Stopped by this morning, old shoes in hand. Got sized, walked a little on the store treadmill. Learned a little about shoes. I had been using a Saucony Omni 4 Trail shoe, which was compensating for a pronation problem I didn't have and rubbing against the insides of my heels as a result. I now have some Asics Gel Nimbus VIIIs, considered a "neutral" shoe. I hope they work. The sensation in my heels will probably be around for a while, though.

The shoes are white with light and dark orange accents. Very...bright.

I'm wearing Asics Gel Landreths and I love them! I made my trip to a running store several months back, and I regret that I didn't do so before. (My problem is an arch that aches with very little provocation.)

Good for you for taking action!

And good luck with the recovery -

Mindy

Thanks.

I have managed to do a number on my feet over the last 3-4 years, and all because of the wrong shoes. It isn't as though I spent 30 years wearing high heels. Just a lack of support at the worng time, or the wrong fit, and boy.

It can be frustrating.

I'm not running at the present time -- bad hip and whatnot. But I am walking every day. I went to a store like what you described, did the treadmill and video thing, and they recommended the Saucony Omni 4 shoe, as I do have a pronation problem with my left foot. The shoes have helped me tremendously, actually. I hope your new shoes help you!

It's funny how one person's great shoe can be another person's non-starter.

Fingers crossed that these do the trick for me.

I hope they work well for you. Even after my foot surgery I can only work in hiking boots or clogs simply because they don't really bend much when you walk. My foot easily fits in sneakers and other shoes, but since my big toe no longer bends I'm kinda gimpy. Guess I'm lucky I can wear hiking boots...my shoe of choice. LOL
