Did the treadmill tonight, and...*drumroll*...ran my first mile EVAH!

Ok, it was a stinky, piss-poor, 15-minute fast walk/slow jog. But it's my first full mile ever and I jogged the entire time and so there.

Bracketed it with 20 or so minutes of walking on either side.

Pleased.

Congratulations!

I ran a mile for the first time a little over a year ago. I was so, so pleased with myself.

Thanks!

I hope my knees don't wimp out on me, and I can keep it up. I'd love to improve.

Good for you! Now you have a nice benchmark to work from.

Good luck with the knees...I know the fastest way to make mine complain is to push the pace over 4 mph and keep it there.

I just sprang for some good Saucony running shoes. They seem to provide a lot of shock absorption.

I'm actually more concerned about my feet than my knees, but I'm hoping that if I work up to this slowly, they won't notice.

One of the things I hate about middle age--when did all this machinery start to wear out?

I messed my knees up at the quarter century mark. So far, moderate exercise is what works the best at keeping stuff in good working order. Not that I always exercise moderately.

Good shoes and staying in good condition help.

This from the biker--thanks!

My lower back is stiff, but is has been ever since I started tossing the jogging increments into the walking routine. And the old ankle injury is letting me know it's there, but it does that sometimes after the walking, too.

And my knees, a little.

Stupid knees.

Funny thing was, I started out trying to walk at 4 mph, but that jarred my feet and back so much that I was worried about something seizing up while I worked out. Jogging actually felt less stressful, at least where my feet were concerned. The rest of the body realized after a couple of minutes that More Work had been added.
