A very interesting link, by way of CE Petit, describing a sort of legal variation of documents examination. These folks would, if I am reading things correctly, review for content rather than provenance, and to ensure their clients aren't getting it in the neck.

Wouldn’t it be better if we had some of our law schools training the document professionals of the future? Put people in school for one year, give them courses on attorney-client privilege and some basic corporate and litigation principles, don’t make them sit for the bar, and let ‘em rip.

I love the name "Document Ninja School" I'm sure that Jani would approve...although she might have a few suggestions with regard additional training.

"The brain cell harvesting sessions will be held at 2pm in the Student Health building. There will be cake and assorted beverages provided, and all harvestees will be eligible for drawings for merchandise from the campus bookstore."

It writes itself, really...

Seen in today's Midday Open Thread over at Daily Kos:

• Oh no:
• Goldman Sachs Group Inc., facing securities fraud charges leveled against it by the government, on Monday warned that future litigation costs could cut into profits.

Of course there is a simple solution to avoid future litigation costs ...

• Lucien speaks.

• Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell sure know how to pick 'em:

Still smiling...

Found this story clip over at Daily Kos. It's about yet another far-right anti-gay extremist who was found to have booked a lengthy European trip with a paid companion of the same sex. But that wasn't what caught my eye.

On April 13, the "rent boy" (whom we'll call Lucien) arrived at Miami International Airport on Iberian Airlines Flight 6123, after a ten-day, fully subsidized trip to Europe. He was soon followed out of customs by an old man with an atavistic mustache and a desperate blond comb-over, pushing an overburdened baggage cart.

Link to the full story here.

I'm smiling. Even though my Lucien never advertised. His was more a word-of-mouth existence.

For the first time, I have the honor of participating in Brenda Novak's Online Auction to Benefit Diabetes Research. My offering is a gift basket containing the following:

Autographed copies of all five Jani Kilian mmpbs

A bound and autographed copy of "Incident on a Small Colony," the Jani novella that appeared in Baens Universe in December 2006.

Along with the books, a few things that crop up in the stories, or reflect Jani's life, specifically her Anglo-Indian French dialect-speaking background:

2-12 oz bags of Community Coffee, whole bean, medium/dark roast
2 black fleur-de-lis mugs
a $25 gift card for Penzey's Spices
A claddagh picture frame in ivory ceramic.
A small figurine of Ganesh, Remover of Obstacles

One or two more surprises.

Hoping to pull the stuff together for a photo in the next few days.

The auction runs through the month of May. Please bid if you can, for this or any other items that you like. It's for a great cause.

Just letting you know that there are 3 days left in Brenda Novak's auction. I am offering a Jani gift basket containing books and goodies related to Jani's life.

Haven't seen a new bid for...quite some time.

Jani would really, really appreciate it. I mean, you may not be a fan, or you may already have the books. In either case, there are many other cool things to bid on.

But, you know, Jani would appreciate a few more bids.

Lucien would, too.

Tsecha doesn't get this whole auction thing.

Niall is bemused.

John is pondering acting as a shill, even though he knows Jani would kill him.

Note the big-eyed puppy icon.

Chris McGrath is doing the cover (I assume the CODE/RULES/LAW cover) for the SFBC edition!

He sent me a photo of the model he has in mind.

It will be a very edgy cover.
