Found this story clip over at Daily Kos. It's about yet another far-right anti-gay extremist who was found to have booked a lengthy European trip with a paid companion of the same sex. But that wasn't what caught my eye.

On April 13, the "rent boy" (whom we'll call Lucien) arrived at Miami International Airport on Iberian Airlines Flight 6123, after a ten-day, fully subsidized trip to Europe. He was soon followed out of customs by an old man with an atavistic mustache and a desperate blond comb-over, pushing an overburdened baggage cart.

Link to the full story here.

I'm smiling. Even though my Lucien never advertised. His was more a word-of-mouth existence.

Oh, the resonance *is* worth a smile. [And a tip of the hat - it's been years since I read the Jani books, and I caught the reference right away.]

Lucien's one of the characters that readers remember. If they don't remember his name, they remember 'the blond guy.'

If this had been your Lucien, we'd be minus one right-wing fundamentalist anti-gay lying hypocritical scum.

Where is Lucien when we really need him? And on third thought, do you suppose the reporters picked "Lucien" because they'd read your book and it fit so well?

Lucien could be remarkably pragmatic. Why blow up the body when shredding the rep works just as well? I can visualize him phoning reporters now.

I would be *thrilled* if that were the case. However, we will probably never know.

Pragmatic, yes. I can see him shredding the rep--but I can also see him finding removal pragmatic.

He's your character; you know best where his buttons are.

Oh, I don't know. They all manage to surprise me.

Besides, you're the one who once explained why Lucien would be perfectly happy on a farm in the middle of nowhere--privacy, outbuildings where he could work uninterrupted--so I think you may have my favorite blond pretty well figured out.

Jani, I know very well. John. Niall. Lucien is still a mystery in some ways.
