I have held two of the swords--Theoden's and Aragorn's. It was all I could do to handle them politely and not release the Inner Crazy Woman with Sword.
But I want to come out onto the plains of Rohan, and have those clothes...though I also want Boromir's doublet...and a sword with better steel than any of mine except the one as well as better skill than I have. And a horse, of course, that is a)sound, and b)sane, and a body that has forgotten all the old injuries and still works right, which this one increasingly does not.
Minas Tirith...not so much. I belong in the field and forest.
I'm having more problems than the horses, alas. However, they're in general good health, they're pretty, they keep each other company, and I should outlive them, which is good as it means no one else will have to worry about what to do with them. They get fed, trimmed, vet care at least twice a year for shots and teeth, and room to amble around looking for another way to get dirty, so they can look at me reproachfully and say "Once I was a handsome, shiny-coated fellow with a silken mane and tail, and look what you've let me become." To which I say, "If you didn't roll the moment it rains, you might not look like a long-legged Rastafarian hog. Now hold still while I get the mud-beads out of your dreads..."
Illusion, who has the full tail, is talented at biting off osage orange branches (with thorns) and then dropping them on the ground, and then deciding to roll nearby so the thorny branch gets caught in his tail. Mac hasn't figured that one out yet, but he's the thin-soled tenderfoot who goes lame at the slightest excuse (I think the sight of a saddle, but also on soft ground). Mac's the drama queen, too.
But they'd both love Rohan. Illusion would find some toxic plant and eat it and have to be nursed back to health (been there, done that) and Mac would go lame regularly and dramatically, but they'd love it. No fences.
If I still had Ky, I'd want to ride up the circles of the city...but not either of these guys. First, though, Something would have to change with the hip.
My lot need humans to worship them and be partners with them. Which is why I wonder if Tolkien knew about Vienna. All those white horses, and Shadowfax. Long-lived, waits for his one true person, understands the speech of Men...yep.

I'm sorry your horse is having problems. :( My geriatrics are hanging in; they like being ridin' hosses now they've given at the broodmare office.
