ksmith: (gimme a break)
King got me up at 6am, at which point I let him out, then made coffee. Let him back in, then went back to bed. He then got me up again at 7am. At the moment, we're in my office, and he's sleeping beside my chair--no, wait--he just moved out to the hallway. I don't think he likes the tap-tap of the keyboard.

Mowed the front lawn yesterday after work, then spread lawn treatment. The humidity it was high--I was a soppy mess within minutes. Felt like I was in Florida again. Of course, it started raining as soon as I stashed everything back in the garage, so I think the treatment was flooded out. I'll reapply it later today.

Spent the evening hunting for things. My business card case and matching pen--isn't it funny how I've used any old pen for months, but for this trip I need the pen that goes with the card case? Isn't it funny that I need the card case? Then I found that the pen had gone dry, so I needed to hunt for the refills. Found them. Also found the nice thin insoles that fit into shoes without rendering them a size smaller. Assembled the cords and connectors and chargers and whatnot--when in doubt, check the bags used for the last trip. Printed out the emails with folks' contact info, hotel confirmation, flight schedule. The map of Denver airport Terminal 5, which shows which exits for cabs and which for hotel shuttles.

I was loading dates into my phone datebook until I realized that I'd be changing timezones and therefore throwing everything off by an hour. I'll reset that today. Set up auto billpay for the bills that hit while I'm gone.

In almost every bag I hunted through, I found a tin of Altoids. Mints, mostly. Gum, sometimes. Now, of course, I'm a fan of the choco-covered mints, so the plain may now go begging for takers. Except they're a good upset stomach remedy when nothing else is available--just pop 5-6 and chase them down with a glass of warm water--so I may take them anyway. Best breath mints ever, as well.

Need to take King for a walk. Then, wow, maybe some actual folding-of-clothes-and-tucking-into-the-suitcase.

I hate filing and cleaning up receipts, old magazines, etc. So why, when I should be packing, do I find it necessary to sort through stacks of receipts and file them, purge magazines, and in general straighten up?

I can see it now--10pm, when I should be fast asleep, there I'll be, trying to tuck in the shirt sleeves so they don't wrinkle and rolling up socks and stuffing them in shoes.

I think this post pretty much explains my relationship with deadlines.

Found on desk--a questionaire from insurance company that was due last month. I think I'll fill it out.

Shoes and pants are packed. Made ring of shoes around perimeter of hardshell case to allow for more depth for clothes.

U-wear? check
PJs? check (don't roll your eyes--I never remember the damned things until I have closed up the suitcase)
Socks and other foot stuff? check

I want to take the black velvet frock coat. I have never officially worn it--the buttons are still wrapped in tissue. But I don't want to smash the hell out of it.

I think I will encase it in a garbage bag, then fold it. That should prevent the worst of the creases.

All clothes are packed with the exception of the frock coat. Toiletries last, but they can be tucked amid stuff, so I may still have room for the coat. Need to run an errand and do some stuff around the house. I'm also thinking of coloring my hair, which may not be the brightest thing I could do right before a trip, but which I may do anyway.
