If you have a chance, please check out my revamped website:

http://www.kristine-smith.com/

It's now Wordpress-based, with my blog as the homepage. I will eventually feed the blog into LJ and maybe Dreamwidth. Let me know if anything looks wonky--I worked on it in Firefox and checked it on my iPad, and I'm guessing that Webmistress Ruta checked it 9 ways from Sunday, but something always looks funny somewhere.

It's different, but lots of white space seems to be the New Black. I like the option of being able to tweak/edit little things without having to bug Ruta. Much of the content is the same, although there have been some small additions and major deletions.

Anyway, have a look if you've time.

Dentist this morning. Just a cleaning. In and out in 15 minutes, which I think is a record.

Grocery shopping. I wanted to buy some ready-made baked goods, really I did. The fruit tarts looked lovely. The cupcakes. Then I thought, no, you could make something just as good with Bisquick and some chopped apples and streusel topping. So I bought the Bisquick, and maybe during the week I'll try a coffee cake. Stir the batter just until most everything is wetted, and you will wind up with one moist, soft coffee cake. It's not fancy, but it tastes better than most of the stuff out there.

Same thing happened with french fries. I found these herbed/seasoned ones that I've had before and liked, but the price was $3.50/bag or 2/$7, and that's a lot to pay for spuds. So I bought some Russets instead. Slice them and bake them at about 450F with olive oil and salt/pepper and, welp, good stuff.

In other news, LiveJournal was balky again, I see. This summer I will be--or rather, Miz Ruta will be--tweaking the website, and I will be doing the embedded Wordpress blog thing. I'm also debating a restyle. I still like the current green/grey color scheme even though it's years old, and I still like that photo. But site styles have changed since the early 2000's, and I am pondering what to do next.

I know January is the official "post-holiday ZOMG diet month," but the obviously-doctored bare belly ads that keep cropping up on Every. Flipping. Website. I. Visit. can disappear anytime now. I was hoping for this month, but I'm still seeing them.

...nohyphen.net, by a score of 28-8 9.

I took [livejournal.com profile] slothman's advice and bought the additional domain names, so www.hyphen-name.com will redirect to www.nohyphen.net. Thanks to all for their comments. I confess I was surprised by the results. I didn't realize hyphens were considered such a hassle.

And once I get things settled, I will tell you what this is all about.

I will be purchasing a domain in the very near future. I can opt for a hyphenated name, as I did with kristine-smith.com, or go with nonhyphenatedname.net. I wondered if folks had a preference.

[Poll #1117448]

UPDATE: So far, the voting is: hyphen.com--7 8 votes; no hyphen.net--20 24 votes. I appreciate the comments.

...which means that many of you have seen this posted elsewhere.

SF & F Novelists is the brainchild of Tobias Buckell, and a dandy hub with links to and info about many writers in the genres. Check out the links, the blog, the whole nine yards. Tobias did a wonderful job pulling this together.

Dipped a toe into the redo-the-website pool. I've spent the last two evenings picking through templates, and have likely settled on one. Found a cool photo on deviantArt to use on the homepage...assuming it's available for use. If not, will search further for writing-related images.

In other news, finally had business cards made. Found a place in Redmond WA. Lovely offwhite parchment with a gold/black design. Also bought a card case from Colorado Pen. I'll be all set.
