When I think of "my music," I think of music made by artists who first became popular in the early to mid 70s, when I entered my teens. David Bowie's music is mine in a way that the Stones' or Beatles' music can never be.
Fleetwood Mac in on the tail end of this personal time of mine. So is Bruce Springsteen...who is adorning the cover of the September/October issue of the AARP magazine. Bruce is 60. Bowie is 62.
I don't even want to guess how old the members of Fleetwood Mac are.
Just hobbling along...

Date: 2009-08-05 12:30 pm (UTC)I will never forget that show. The scene in the lobby of the Rosemont Horizon Theater. The show was in January, so it was cold of course, and all these Bowie fans in their 40s, 50s, and 60s are standing around in their suede and leather jackets, sipping wine out of plastic cups. We looked like a bunch of retirees waiting for the investment adviser talk to begin. Not a rock n roll crowd, is what I'm trying to say. Except that we were.
Talk about cognitive dissonance.

Date: 2009-08-05 01:05 pm (UTC)I've had a hard time swallowing all the PBS "reunion concerts" for the 50s and 60s bands -- rock, R & B, do-wop, folk, whatever. Bald fat guys . . .
