Spring?

The daffodils are about 2-3 inches tall. Lawns are greening. The robins are back in force and folks are spring-cleaning their yards...and we're under Winter Storm Warning until tomorrow afternoon as the storm that buried folks out west heads in our direction.

Snowfall rates are expected to hit up to 2-3 inches an hour. No idea what those of us who are closer to the lake could end up with--there's a lakeshore flood advisory because of the winds that will honk down the length of the lake, but whether they will serve to push the snows back?

It's sunny now. Mid 30s. One good thing about the storm holding off is that I will be able to get King to and from the vet in the dry. After I get him home, I will get the grocery shopping done. Probably fill up Kuro. Then I'll hunker down for the duration.

The ground was just starting to dry out. Now it will be a mess of mud and slush again. Guess I will dig the snow shovels out of the garage.

::damn::

We had sprouting corn, beans, pumpkins, and flowers on the little tomato plants. Last night a cold front blew in (dry) with strong, drying, cold winds and tonight it's supposed to be freezing with strong, drying, cold winds.

It's going to be colder tonight than it was most of the winter. We're having mild winters with the freezes coming in mid-late spring (two years ago it snowed on Easter....had been no snow all winter, and hardly a severe frost.)

I should realize by now that snow in late March is not unusual and April snowstorms are quite common. But I want warm sunny weather so badly I can taste it.

We NEVER had snow in March before. If we had snow, it was in late Nov. through early Feb. Now we have warm to hot Nov-Dec-Jan, a freeze or two in Feb, and severe cold mixed with T-storms in March and April. Followed by no rain in the month that used to be our rainiest, May.

Last I heard, you're supposed to get 2 inches. We're in that 4-6 inch band.

Ugh.

I have to stop swearing at the weatherpeople on the television. When Jerry Taft announced this storm on the 7 Evening News, I think I said some very rude things about him and his ancestry. ;)

It's not even April yet!

Of course, I should shut up - we're going to have a really nice day up here as the storm goes well south for a change. I keep telling people it's really bad to live here in the Twin Cities; then we get a year like this where most of the bad weather goes all around us - we must have done something right!

I know. I know.

But I want the warm. And the sun.

I hope it's only 2 inches. The radar looks awfully awful.

I'm just sick of it. But then I recall how many times I warned Dad to not shut off the old furnace until after Memorial Day. And he would always shut it off after the first warm snap in May, and invariably nighttime temps would fall to the 40s the following week.

Spring in Illinois.

We were supposed to get lots of snow (reports of 19 inches a few hours west of us), but we seem to be hovering on the other side of freezing. Woke to sleet, but no snow. We'll see what it does to the grass and lettuce I put out last weekend.

Icy rain was falling about 20 minutes ago. I had to lure Gaby inside with a dog cookie because the little idjit was lying on the ground getting pelted by the stuff. Little Husky girl.
