Why Syfy?

I don't watch the Channel Formerly Known As Sci Fi because it's part of a premium channel package I don't get, but I haven't heard many good things so I don't know if I'm missing much.

This name change kinda confirms it.

Can you say "huh"?

Well, others are saying things like:

The new name reflects Syfy's broad range of "imagination-based entertainment beyond just the traditional sci-fi genre, including fantasy, supernatural, paranormal, reality, mystery, action and adventure," the network said in a press release presumably written by the same gang of idiots who decided Syfy wouldn't immediately conjure up images of STDs.

Oh, the mockery.

I've seen this all over the place, of course, but the subject for your post was the first time I'd really seen "SyFy" alone, and I must say that I really did kind of thing it was "siffy". Duh. :)

The only thing worth watching on Sci-Fi is the new Battlestar, and that's over as of this Friday. Rent the DVDs.

"imagination-based entertainment beyond just the traditional sci-fi genre ..."

Such as their wrestling shows.
Blargh.

I will give BSG's spinoff a try in April, called Caprica.

SciFi is following the path of MTV and VH1

Remember when MTV & VH1 played videos and music oriented documentaries? I fear SciFi's change over to SyFy represents a dumbing down of the channel. Reality TV and a version of "The Flavor of Love" cannot be far behind the "Professional Wrestling" programming and branding change we've seen with the former SciFi Channel.
