Cut the lawn this evening. Then watered part of it to dissolve the fertilizer/weed snuffer so it could soak into the ground. Cut the grass/feed the grass. And I wonder why it grows so blinkin' fast.

Online shopping for the pups. Mickey has joint issues, I think--he's pretty stiff when he gets up in the morning, and sometimes you can hear his joints crack when he stands. He seems stiff when he runs, too--his body doesn't flatten out like King's does, and he looks a little "hoppy" as he moves. So I tracked down some glucosamine with vitamins that's made for larger dogs. One tab per 75 pounds means that I can give the Mickster one a day. This should prove easier to administer than my current tabs, of which I'm supposed to try to feed 4 a day to a dog Mick's size. He won't even eat one, and this dog eats just about everything. I can imagine how they taste. Hope the new tabs taste better.

Also bought nylabones, doggie septic tank enzyme and deodorizers, a ball, a collar for Mickey to replace the one King broke, and brewer's yeast. And shedding combs for King, whose undercoat is blowing rather late this year.

I'm a member of the REM fan club. I'm too old to be a member of any band's fan club, but there you go. I received an offer in the mail to register for an early shot at tickets for the upcoming tour, so I did. Don't know if they're coming to Chicago, but here's hoping. I saw U2 at the United Center a few years ago, a show that ranks as the best I've ever seen. REM is my other favorite Big band, and I'd like to see them live as well.

Hi,
Have been reading the journal for awhile, but don't quite understand how to respond. I don't want to "join" since I don't want to have a journal myself. Anyway, I'll try this.

About the fan club--You're as young as you feel, right?
I am older than you by about 6 or years. I was at a "Highlander" convention a few years ago, waiting in an autograph line, when someone started talking to me about a fan club for one of the actors. I said "I'm too old to be in a fan club". The actor signed a picture for me, and later, when I looked at the picture, I saw he had written "You're never too old" above his signature. LOL
A couple of years ago, my nephew bought me a fan club membership in the Neil Finn (Split Enz, Crowded House, solo, Finn Brothers) fan club and I later converted it to a lifetime membership! It is a great fan club and I'm glad I did it. Recently got to see the Finn Brothers in concert at the Vic.
So, I say, enjoy the fan club!

PS--I see where on the XRT website you can enter a contest to win a trip to the Austin City Limits Music Festival where REM will be performing.

Oh, yea, I'm a big fan of your books, as well.

Paulette

I allow Anonymous posting, so you don't need an LJ account to comment. I would like to keep it pretty open since the reason I linked my blog to my website was to give access to as many folks as possible. So No Account works fine. I know some folks disallow Anonymous posts. I don't know if this is because they've had problems in the past, or they just want to know who posts in their blog.

OTOH, some folks sign up for free LJ accounts simply to set up a name that they can use when they comment, and let their blogs lie dormant. That's an option, if you want it.

Split Enz? I know I have a copy of History Never Repeats somewhere. That was a good band--not familiar with Finn's other projects.

The thing with the REM Fan Club membership is that you get Neat Stuff--a small calendar, a Christmas CD, newsletters, and early shots at concert tickets. And I like them, drat it. I guess I can't shake the underlying sense that fan clubs go with 16 magazine and Bonne Bell makeup.

I have to remind myself at times that the fan base for many bands I like has aged. I will never get over my bemusement when I looked over the crowds filling the lobby prior to David Bowie's January show at the Rosemont Theater. There were a few baby glams, but for the most part we were all in our 40s/50s. Leather and shearling coats, office casual clothes, conservatively styled hair, all sipping wine and talking about kids, the traffic, and blown marriages. So different from experiences at Metro and Double Door, even though wine in plastic cups is apparently a universal.

I must check out the XRT contest, seeing as I Have Friends In Austin.

Thanks for posting, and for reading! Glad you're enjoying Jani's story. I hoping that as my head unclogs, I will have J5 progress reports to post.

I think I either just sent a just started post, or I lost it. If I sent a strange one, then I apologize. This is not as easy as I thought. I did decide to create an account so I could comment. But now that I have gotten into it, I may actually write an entry or two in the journal just to see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestion.
All this because I wanted to add to my first post that you might be interested in listening to a Neil Finn CD, because a fews years back he brought together some musician friends in New Zealand and put on a concert. A CD and DVD was made of the concert called "7 Worlds Collide". One of the friends was Johnny Marr.
Also, I think you have to be an XRT VIP member to enter the Austin contest(I didn't mention that before). It's easy to become a VIP.
Oh and yes, I look forward to the Jani book!
Thanks again.

Boy, you just created an account and already you have an avatar that moves! I don't have one of those yet.

After a few weeks with a free account, I switched to a paid account so I could have up to 15 avatars. This LJ thing starts to suck you in before you know it. But it can be fun. A timesink, but fun.

Thanks for the CD suggestion. I'm open to anything featuring Johnny Marr.
