Why I run, Reason #876

Sometimes, when I'm sweating like a fiend and my mind is occupied with the task of putting one foot in front of the other, important turns of plot drop right into my lap. Or would drop in my lap, except I'm running, not sitting.

So I guess they drop on my head.

Really important turns of plot. Like the 'whole story leads up to This Moment' turns of plot.

Makes the sweating worthwhile. Sort of. Almost.

This is true of alot of exercise. There was an article in our local paper about it. There's a quote form Einstein - it's in Peter Watts "Blindsight" actually - along the lines of "You cannot solve a problem in the same level of consciousness in which it was created."

This happens alot to me in yoga. That whole focusing in on some very small important things, like your breath and where your feet are going, frees up your mind and allows other stuff to come in and work itself out. Kind of like untying the knots of the mind.

I will have to admit that the Cruel Light of Day (TM) revealed a few issues with this particular plot turn. But it has a lot going for it, and it's a place to start.

I've mentioned before that many plot turns/resolutions download from my backbrain when I'm waking up in the morning. I think it's something along the same lines.

My running days are over, but that is why I take that one mile walk to the post office every day. ;-) Something always pops up out of nowhere...and usually makes me go "Doh, Sue!"
