It's always kinda funny when the images of ARCs that sellers post on eBay display the "Not For Sale" sticker to best advantage.

I guess I am weird, I don't view a lot of things that people see as valuable as being that valuable. I see people standing in line waiting for their chance to get some author to sign 3 copies of the same book and they have boxes and boxes of books waiting to be signed. And while I certainly do value a signed copy, what is more important to me is a copy signed by someone I know. I don't track down writers I don't know personally and bug them for autographs because to me it just isn't that big a deal. But an author I know, the value is beyond price, which means I won't be selling it. Sure I could be passing up money in the long run, but to me the sentimental value is worth so much more and is not worth cheapening for mere money. But that is just my opinion.

I don't believe it's signed -- it's an advance reader's copy. So basically they're selling getting to read the thing before everyone else does (release is July 2007).

You're not supposed to sell those, either. *g*

I've always wondered why some criminals flaunt their crimes. Is it that big of a rush to say "nyah nyah, I know it's wrong, I'm doing it anyways, and see, I'm not even *trying* to hide what I'm doing!"?

On a different note, is Ebay increasing the rate at which property rights are ignored, or is it simply highlighting the natural progression of what was already occuring?

I think eBay, and any other venue that sells used books and other similar things, is just going along with flow. I wonder if the folks who invented the internet even considered the possibility that one of its main uses would be as the world's largest swap meet?

The Internet wasn't invented, it's a lab experiment that escaped and went completely feral.
