Dreary Monday

ksmithLight rain this morning, and cloudy. Could have slushy snow toward week's end. Yea!
J5 revisions. Didn't start those, although I did spend time shifting the manuscript all over the office in an effort to find a resting spot. Yes, the desk once more needs to be cleared. The ms. is currently on the floor beside my desk.
As I think I w/h/i/n/e/d/ said before, much work is needed. I need to excise a POV. Remove what has been seen as an overabundance of backstory in the front of the book and add some action. Beef up the stakes in both Jani's storyline and that of Rilas, the bornsect assassin who is now the only other POV.
I really should have the new/old Chapter 1 posted on my website. I think it will change a little more, but at least it's one more step along the evolutionary scale. Maybe take down Chapter 8, which may or may not make the cut--and damn, I like it, too, but we've no room for emotional attachments in this business, do we?--and put up Chapter 2 instead. We'll see.
I will likely start by cutting out all the defunct POV chapters and sections, then go back to Chapter 1 and see if I can tweak the start. I think I know what to do, she said. I think...
I will say now that the release date of the book is changed. It will still come out in 2007, but the date is likely November now. What I didn't know was that the old release date was October 2007, not September, which is a moot point now because given the amount of work I need to do, I ill likely need to opt for the November date. Apologies to all who are awaiting so patiently. I will try to think up a contest or podcast or something for next summer to liven things up a bit prior to release.
And if you're interested, remember that Incident on a Small Colony hits the screens in a few weeks--the December issue of Baen's Universe. Rich Horton over on SFFNet said that it was his favorite novella "by far" of the four that have appeared in Universe during 2006, which was a nice bit of egoboo for Yours Truly.
FYI--thanks to all who voted in the Navy Suit/Navy Shoes? poll. 19 total, with 17 opting for "black shoes just fine" and 2 in favor of "navy and navy only."
Had plans for the weekend, but didn't really hit the mark. Bought wood stain for the nice oaken registers and wallpaper for the kitchen wall, but didn't actually get around to staining/wallpapering. Did some work outdoors, cutting down spent flowers--the dahlias grew to my shoulder!--along with residual leaf pickup. Spent part of yesterday doing financial stuff, reconciling bank statements and such. It goes so much more quickly when you don't let it go for 3-4 months at a stretch.
Thanksgiving is the weekend after next. Four day weekend! Should get some writing done.
