Thanks to everyone who commented about laptops vs desktops. I'm still on the fence. There is at least one company out there that makes docking stations for Mac laptops (right here in northeastern Illinois!), so that option is on the table. I like the idea of being able to attach a regular size monitor and keyboard. But. I have also heard of docking stations failing over time because of the constant plugging/unplugging. OTOH, these are Dell docking stations I'm talking about, which are the ones we use at the day job.

The main reason to go with a desktop is the one some of you mentioned--use as a primary music storage/system server/sun around which all laptops revolve like satellites. OK, maybe that was a little over the top. But that's how I've used my desktop as well, so, yes I can see the advantages.

One issue--I *liked* the old iMac white cases. I don't like the pale gold MacBook Pros--they look like make-up cases on steroids, a little chintzy looking, and yes, this is my opinion only. Not crazy about the brushed aluminum iMac cases, either, but I prefer those to the MBPros. Not that the MBPro option is on the table. There is a limit to how much I will pay for a laptop. I just don't care for the latest Apple stylings, and will wait to see what the new model iMacs look like before making a decision.

Any recommendations? Brands to avoid?

Coffee beans. Which brands are favorites?

FWIW, I prefer a medium-strength brew. I bought some Caribou Sumatra yesterday. I still need to work out the water:coffee proportion to taste, but it's OK.

Maybe the kidz have settled down for their morning naps? They don't want to go Outside, because Mommy is Inside. But when they're Inside, rugs fly and Mommy has to keep yelling "Sit!"

They are now sacked out around my chair. They look so cute. Which is why they still live.

But this is just neat.

Maybe companies twigged onto this years ago. You just don't hink of politicians doing it, though.

1910 words so far. Wanted to make it to 2000 before I took a break, but I'm too antsy. Need to work out, feed the pups, get some dinner. Then back at it.

UPDATE: didn't make 4K, like I wanted to. 3007 words total. Stopping in the middle of a scene, but I'm tired. Need to go to Northbrook tomorrow morning and pick up the iMac. The Apple Store phone twice today for me to come get it. It must be collecting dust on the shelf or something.

I'm pulling in the scenes and partials that I wrote out of sequence. Much of it requires some editing, but it's still usable, which is nice.

In other news, the Bulls lost tonight, and the Blackhawks have started the year 0-3. It's great to be a sports fan in Chicago.
