Lies being spread by the McCain campaign about Barack Obama's votes and positions:

One of the arguments one gets in response to videos like this is "Obama took this thing that McCain said out of context, and this, and this, and what about--"

The thing is, the present-day conservatives were supposed to be Better. Their worldview was Right and Good. They would make the US strong and keep her that way. They would grow business, create jobs, cut waste, and value Life. They would keep us safe.

If they had done all those things, McCain would not have to resort to ads such as the ones he's been running. If they had done all those things, they wouldn't have to make sneering jokes about Ivy League degrees (refresh my memory--which school did GWB attend? Yale? But isn't that..?), chardonnay sipping, fancy cheeses, and arugula. If they had done all of those things, they wouldn't have to reignite culture wars every two years to obscure the facts that they've ravaged the Constitution, pillaged the environment, taken from the poor and given to the rich, deregulated us into a financial crisis, stretched our armed services to the breaking point and failed the men and women who donned the uniforms, left their loved ones behind, and put themselves in harms way. If they had done all those things, all they would have to do is point to their accomplishments. If they had done all those things, we'd know.

It's been said that Rovian Republicans don't know how to govern, but they do know how to campaign. Their only interest is power, and in order to keep it they will continue to divide the American people and persuade the persuadable to vote against their best interests by terrifying them. Because fear is the only weapon they have. Not accomplishment. Not truth. Fear.

So anyone out there who feels differently, don't give me any He Said So She Said bullshit. There wasn't even supposed to be any reason for argument.

And please don't tell me that we haven't been attacked since 9/11. 1) you can't prove a negative, and 2) 8 years elapsed between the first Twin Towers bombing and 9/11.

I feed the pups at the same time. Gaby, as Mickey did, digs in immediately. King, however, usually takes his time, lounging for a few minutes before getting up and lumbering over to his bowl. I put his food down first, which means that technically I have observed the 'feed the Alpha first' rule, and I think he is content.

In the evenings, I feed them about half their daily allowance. King gets a little under 2 cups of dry food, along with some wet food/chicken livers/nutraceuticals. Gaby gets about 3/4 cup with some oil for her coat and a little wet food/chicken liver.

Gaby is proving to be a chow hound. I feed her the amount sufficient for a 35-pound dog, since that's her ideal weight. But she has been trying lately to get to King's dish during those times when he takes his sweet time getting to it. She managed to circle around the kitchen table and scarf down his chicken livers the other day. Today, when I made the mistake of turning my back, she managed to gobble down almost all of his dinner. I warned her off the remains, refilled the bowl, put it down, and she tried to get to it AGAIN. I finally had to put her outside because every time I warned her off, King thought I was talking to him and wouldn't go to his bowl.

King has eaten. He's resting now. Hoover is still outside. I should let her in, but...it's quiet.
