A good column by Devilstower. The wrap-up is the money shot, but read the whole thing. We're more like than not, but it's the MO of one party to make us believe otherwise.

Hard as it is for some on both sides of the divide to believe, small town people are exactly as smart, dumb, good, bad, close-minded and curious as those who live in the cities. Small town values are American values, but no more American than "New York City Values" or "San Francisco Values." In fact, their values are the same values.

The only reason to think otherwise is a GOP that's become utterly dependent on spreading the poison of divisiveness and bigotry as their only means to survive.

They copy one another. Gaby has this thing she does where she goes into a puppy crouch, then springs into the air. When she does it, it's like watching popcorn pop. When King does it...remember the dancing hippos in Fantasia?

...but I thought I'd link to this, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] christymarx. Just an interesting study in compare and contrast.

In other news, disastrous writing weekend, during which I learned that two active dogs--OK, one is a terrier mix, so make that two and a half active dogs--cooped up inside a small house during a rainy weekend can derail any and every flipping attempt to write. Research will do the rest. Very interesting stuff learned today about the Illinois indians, but dang, I wish I had thought of looking for it six months ago.

It finally stopped raining earlier this afternoon. YEA!

Carlos Zambrano pitched a no-hitter tonight against the Astros. Final score: 5-0. The first Cubs no-hitter in 36 years.

I realize that compared to many folks, I have no problems. I have a good job...for now, at least. I can pay my bills and save for retirement.

But boy, I can't wait to see the hit the old 401(k) takes tomorrow when the fallout from Lehmann Bros hits the financial fan.

As late as six months ago, I was seriously considering retiring from the day job. I would still have had to work, but was hoping that the writing income would bridge the gap.

Not gonna happen.
