So I'm about 1900 words into "8 rms", and they're the wrong words. Or maybe they're the right words, but in the wrong order. Because the beginning, as much as I like the scene itself, is too slow. One doesn't have time to spend 2 pages coming up to speed when one is dealing with a 20-25 page story. One needs to drag the reader in immediately and hand them a mop/stick/firearm/sandblaster/whatever because stuff is happening NOW and needs to be dealt with NOW, not four pages from now.

I have, I think, a decent start to a novelette or longer. I even think that the business would do well in the penultimate scene, with different dialogue. But it's not a good beginning, and I have the weekend to think of a new one.

phfft

In other news, it's hot. Reached 94F today. It's backed off to the 70s now, but considering that we only hit the 60s last weekend at this time, I think it's safe to say that late Spring in the Midwest is being its usual schizoid self. Is it April? Is it August? Is it a Heart of Gold?

Apropos of absolutely nothing, this guy comes as close to looking like Lucien as any other actor/model I've seen. Not perfect--only certain poses work for me. But we could force ourselves to cope.

Yes, I do sometimes spend altogether too much time casting my characters.
