Apropos of absolutely nothing, this guy comes as close to looking like Lucien as any other actor/model I've seen. Not perfect--only certain poses work for me. But we could force ourselves to cope.

Yes, I do sometimes spend altogether too much time casting my characters.

Me too... it's kind of a sickness. Some characters I never have to cast - but some I can't write till I can look at their face.

Yeah. And some scenes play as though I'm in them, while others take place before me, as though I'm in the audience.

In some ways, writing is very visual.

I think for the best writers anyway ;)

And if it provides an excuse to Google male models (euphemisms, euphemisms), so much the better...

Oh, cool! I'd imagined him with darker hair but pretty much exactly that nose.

heh--you're not the only one who imagines Lucien with darker hair. One friend insists he's a brunet just because she prefers brunets. I made him a towhead because I think it's a pretty attention-getting color for an adult, but if I had to do it over, I might redo him to dark blond. Something not quite as noticeable.

It's a lesson--even though you think you've decribed a character beyond any doubt, a reader will insert their own preferences/ideas/impressions.

I love when readers do that - and hate it.

Yeah. It's so rewarding when you sense that they've taken what you;ve given and run with it, that a character has come alive for them.

But, well, *blond*. It's important.

But then in a way, it's only important to you.

Definitely. I know I'm not the only reader who derives their physical impression of a character more from their personality and actions than their actual physical description.

Ooo, yummy! FWIW, I do the same thing. Some characters I've had little luck casting, though, which annoys me to no end. And then sometimes I'll see a model/actor and think, "Hey! It's So-and-So!" even though I hadn't been looking for him/her. :)
