Just prior to posting the news that one hit (and even slightly surpassed) one's 1250 word goal for the day IS NOT the time to read the blog entry of a writer who managed close to 20,000. I know. Everyone works differently and if I ever wrote a 20K blitz in a one-day period, you could scrape the remains off my office chair and sprinkle them over King's kennel, or something.

In any event, finished the lost chapter. It's ok for first draft. Lost some writing time due to illness and such--not a cold, but a summer-like allergy assault that hit me out of nowhere. Allerest is a Good Thing.

And hey, looks like next chapter will be a Jani-Lucien chapter. Those are always fun.

Current reading--Ian Rankin's Fleshmarket Alley, which was, according to a notation on the copyright page, sold as Fleshmarket Close in the UK. I am awaiting the arrival of Samuel R. Delaney's ABOUT WRITING, which I read about in Justine Larbalestier's blog, [livejournal.com profile] larbalestier . I occasionally like to read books on writing. A favorite is Robert McKee's STORY, which, granted, discusses screenwriting, but which I think contains a lot of good information about structure, archetypes, and why some stories work while others don't.

Oh well. Off to read some Rankin.

If you hate the Delany book, it's not my fault! Scott's reading it now and loving it. But I'm still always nervous when anyone buys a book on my say so!

Congrats on your writing day. Like you I'm physically incapable of writing 20 thou words in a day. More power to Jay Lake. But, definitely, each to their own. I learned a while ago that more than 2 thou a day kills me and even then I need two days off a week.

I think I'll probably like the Delaney book.

I learned a while ago that more than 2 thou a day kills me and even then I need two days off a week.

I'm glad to see this because when I read of some other writers' output, I feel like such a slacker. But it's whatever you can do.
