Tentative release window for Jani 5--Winter 2007. This is January--April, not end of the year.

I have a date range, which means the panic is officially setting in...

From the reader's point of view: YEAY!

From the writer's point of view, however (1st person neurotic): GAH!!

Yay to Panic

I recommend more coffee and less dog play for the author. Really, it will be fine. Eventually. No one promised you a life after all...

Well, the dogs need play. And the author needs balance.

Because work all day, come home, eat dinner, then work until *yawn* thirty kinda...sucks.

Ahhh I see you've bought into the old work-life balance myth. Fascinating. You seem to believe in it for yourself, but I've never noticed your characters actually enjoying extended periods of such balance. Perhaps this is their method of revenge?

Seriously though... try not to burn out. The K9 crowd is great to get you grounded and relaxed. Did you know petting a fur kid could lower your blood pressure? I hope to hear of literary projects from you for decades to come. I actually hope you will do it full time someday. Until the balance arrives by eliminating "traditional" work (I'm not going to imply writing isn't work), just be careful.

Well, you wouldn't get to see their downtime since that would fall under the header of "doesn't move the story forward so needs to get cut". Niall dragging Jani to an opera performance, while possibly possessing humorous aspects, would strike some readers, and possibly Editor, as needless filler.

Unless a body fell out of a box onto the orchestra seats during the perfomance, at which point it all becomes work again.

Not saying I won't go wiggy at some point. One reaches a strange point in time relativity where, while 9 months seemed like too little time, 3 months seems like just enough. I don't want to fall into that trap.
