Is there a reason to Friend yourself? I've noticed that some folks have done that.

Umm, no. Because if I see my post scroll by as I go through my list, I can go ahead and read/reply to the messages in the course of my lj pass.

So it simply combines Recent Entries and Friends into a single list for reading?

Maybe I should just try it and see what happens. Probably wind up having to deal with a doppelganger or something...

Yes, it means that you'll see your postings intermingled with those of your friends, all in whatever chronological order your style displays. Mine is set up that way and I like it.
