Water fell from the sky yesterday. Made a return appearance during the night, escorted by thunder sufficient to wake me up. Boy, do we need it. We're about 7 inches under for the year in some areas of Illinois, which is apparently the only state suffering a drought if the news is spot on. We're looking at the second driest summer on record so far. There is more rain predicted for the weekend, which I hope arrives...as long as it allows me some time to get in the morning bike rides.

Yes, weenie me. No ride in the rain.

Writing continues. Gee, another nasty chapter coming up--go figure. I am weaving in a subplot that some might consider strange for a Jani book, but it's necessary for two reasons. 1) the climax of the main plot depends on it, and 2) it adds a spot of lightness here and there to what otherwise would be a rough story. Well, I consider it rough. Maybe I'm just too close to it.

Gotta get ready for work. More later...

Our monsoon season has finally abated. We needed the water too, but too much can be just as bad as too little.

Good luck with that nasty chapter.

Good luck with that nasty chapter.

More like a nasty last third of the book, until the last chapter or two, maybe.

Many things that looked pretty solid up to now just fall apart...
