Water fell from the sky yesterday. Made a return appearance during the night, escorted by thunder sufficient to wake me up. Boy, do we need it. We're about 7 inches under for the year in some areas of Illinois, which is apparently the only state suffering a drought if the news is spot on. We're looking at the second driest summer on record so far. There is more rain predicted for the weekend, which I hope arrives...as long as it allows me some time to get in the morning bike rides.
Yes, weenie me. No ride in the rain.
Writing continues. Gee, another nasty chapter coming up--go figure. I am weaving in a subplot that some might consider strange for a Jani book, but it's necessary for two reasons. 1) the climax of the main plot depends on it, and 2) it adds a spot of lightness here and there to what otherwise would be a rough story. Well, I consider it rough. Maybe I'm just too close to it.
Gotta get ready for work. More later...

Date: 2005-08-12 06:44 pm (UTC)Wow. What was it like? I almost sorta-kinda remember something like that. We're on the verge of a drought here. In fact, I think some of the farmers are already convinced we're in one.

Many things that looked pretty solid up to now just fall apart...

Date: 2005-08-12 10:35 pm (UTC)Given tomorrow's forecast, looks like I'm in luck. No rain until late Saturday into Sunday.
And even better...my bike shorts and gloves arrived today! And they fit! The shorts are made to look like regular shorts, with pockets and a web belt and everything. It's only when you put them on that you feel the Depends aspect--that padding is in just the right place.
I was hoping that they'd show up today, but given that I ordered only a few days ago, I was prepared to go without this weekend. LLBean is good about fast shipping, though.
Let's not discuss the contents of their sales flyer, which they so helpfully tucked right in there with the clothes.
Yea! Gear!

Date: 2005-08-13 02:09 am (UTC)Deep discount sports tops, both long and short-sleeve, in deep lilac and raspberry. A pair of sneaker-mules. A chamois shirt in medium moss green. They had some great deals on hiking boots, but given my quirky feet, I am tempted to stick with Nike 975s because I know they don't cause those lovely little arch cramps.
