Injecting medical geek-speak into John Shroud's mouth. He lives and breathes the stuff, and is already giving me the fish-eye concerning some of my wording.

"Just go with it for now," I tell him. "I'll fix it later."

He appears skeptical.

Oh, I hate that part when you need the character to speak but the words coming out don't sound like that person, and both of you know it.

My problem is that it's a crisis, and the jargon is flying. Granted, this is the mid/far future, and medicine has progressed to the point that I can probably make up much of it. But I would guess that they still need to track the same things during this time, and I want it to sound reasonable to someone with medical background. Which is daunting.

And John would know what he's doing. And he can think around corners. So he has to look good.
