ksmith...almost.
Busier day than expected. It began later than usual since I slept in a little late--t-storms last night kept me awake as I cursed the blasted weather, which of course made a *big* difference in the path of the storm.
Not.
Have I complained about the amount of rain we've received in northern Eel-nwah these past weeks? Yes, I see I have. Oh well, practice makes perfect.
Filled Kuro. Gas has dropped below $2 a gallon for 87 octane for the first time in a while. Not that it made all that much difference to the overall bill--when you usually buy 10 or so gallons at a time, it takes a big price swing to get your attention.
Anyway, came home, ate lunch (honey-cured ham on a Kaiser with mustard, salad dressing, b&b pickles and a slice of brick cheese, russet potato chips on the side), let the pups out in the back yard, then proceeded to trim the yew hedge that had started to poke through the fence. This led to my trimming the evergreen shrub near the deck. Then the coffee must have kicked in or something because I moved on to trim three other bushes, hack down a small tree that was growing where it dasn't, and excise a weed vine from the rose vine/raspberry bush combo that freeformed near the west fence. Then came the hard part, namely bagging all the branches and whatnot. Four 30-gal bags later, that was all cleaned up.
I decided that I will have to call a landscape/yardcare person to whittle down the burning bush at the front west corner of the house. It has grown muchly in the 17 years I've been here, and had always been difficult to handle because it was big enough to require professional care and it never got it. Now it's very overgrown, and I'd risk danger to life and limb if I tried to scale a ladder and hack off the top, which is a good few feet higher than the roof at this point. Some folks with the right tools need to take about 5-6 feet off the top of this thing and turn it into a nice corner hedge. It had been trimmed into an oval when we first moved here, but those days are gone forever and besides, those sorts of shapes are too difficult to maintain.
Anyway, finished that up, fed said pups, then had some pizza and a nice glass of merlot. Then, since I had heard that we were due for more rain this evening, I decided to mow the front. The back still has a lot of standing water, but the front was doable so I did it. Now I'm feeling accomplished, but stiff. This middle-aged joint ache stuff is for the birds.

scarlettina, and Interlude by St. Etienne. Also a book entitled How to Disappear Completely and Never Be Found by Doug Richmond, a research item for the mystery that's occupying my backbrain.
