If the last few days have been any indication, it's going to be a rockin' and rollin' stormy summer. Cool weather ramped up into the high 80s--Kuro's temp gauge read 89F on the drive home yesterday--with a dew point of 75. This means that a two-minute walk across the backyard was enough to turn one onto a sweat-drenched puttyball. We usually don't see this level of humidity until August.

The dogs definitely felt the heat. By the time I let them out, about 2/3 of the backyard was shaded--they kept to the shade, jumping around for a few minutes only until reality set in and they said the doggy version of the hell with it. Much flopping down and rolling in the grass ensued. Further deconstruction of the remains of the Air Kong. And slo-mo tag, which is tag played at a slow walk, which is fairly amusing to watch.

I also filled the wading pool, which thrilled King to no end. When he first ran into the backyard, he made the usual beeline for Mickey. Then he saw the filled pool, and I swear he smiled. His step lightened, and he flopped right in. Splashed, sat down, drank, stood up, got out, got in again, splashed, etc. By the time he made the circuit a couple of times, half the water had sloshed out of the pool and what remained was muddy, but he didn't care. He's a Water Dog, and he was a happy boy.

Mickey does not appear to be a Water Dog. His interest in the pool only extended to an occasional sip of the (muddy) pool water. He does not like to walk about in the rain, either, again in contrast to King, who doesn't seem to take much notice of weather in general.

During the night, a storm passed through, bringing with it a 30-degree drop in temp. It was still cold this morning, when yet another storm passed through. It's supposed to heat back up to the 80s this afternoon, with the warm/storm pattern continuing through the weekend. Don't know when I'll get a chance to cut the grass. I'll be at Wiscon next weekend, which means I had better get to it this weekend or I'll have to use a machete to chop my way through the greenery.

My section will be moving to a new office area early next week, so I spent part of yesterday and this morning packing. I have Too Many Files. Still undecided whether I should go through them today or wait until I get downstairs (the new office area is 2 floors below the current).

I want to get myself a cubewarming gift, probably a plant of some sort. I bought a terrarium when I moved to this cube five years ago. It did pretty well until last winter, at which time I wasn't in the office much and neglected to ask anyone else to water it. Thus did a pretty nice croton bite the dust. Poor thing. Don't want that to happen again.
