It was a two-part concert--he played the second half, Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D Major. I didn't recognize the piece until the third movement, which I have humming at odd moments since last night.
I wonder if he ever puts a finger wrong anymore? The violin seems part of him.
It was something. Even the visuals were memorable. The stage colors were all pale/dull creams and greys. The musicians all wore black pants and white shirts, and James Conlon, the conductor, wore a cream dinner jacket. Then Perlman comes out in black pants and a deep magenta shirt, possibly silk or silk jacquard with frog closures, the only spot of color on the stage.
I coveted that shirt. You would have loved it--that shade was right in your color wheelhouse.

And then he played.
