ksmithOn 4 of 7 tomato plants. A fifth may have them as well, or they could be tightly curled leaf buds.
I'll be watching the Siberian tomato closely. I gave it a try because it's supposedly good in cooler weather/shorter summers, and fruits about 10 days sooner than most other varieties. I only got one strong seedling from the eight or so seeds that I planted, which failed to impress. But the plant seems sturdy, and the buds are almost an inch long.
Harvested the first of the mesclun the other day, and had a tasty salad. I hope to be able to stop buying storebought for a few weeks, but we'll see. Some of the leaves are only an inch or so tall even though I planted this stuff five-six weeks ago. The Mother of All Chives plant may be at fault--it's so tall that it blocks the morning sun--but it's also possible that I planted the seeds too close together. I didn't thin, and some of the bunches are tight. OTOH, some of those tight bunches are 4-5 inches tall, so crowding isn't the only issue.
The basil in the 5-variety mixed planter all seem to be doing well, knock wood. The dark opal sprouts in the pot next to it, however, are getting chewed up by something. I hope whatever it is doesn't catch a glimpse of what's in the planter next door, or it's going to be a damned short growing season for the basil.
In other news, baked cookies. One of the old standbys--Ina's oatmeal-raisin-pecan...except I didn't have enough pecans, so I filled in with walnuts. So. Oatmeal-raisin-pecan-walnut.
