I've opened a Tumblr account, and am feeding my Twitter and LJ accounts into it.

Just increasing visibility. I've been told that Tumblr works best for folks who post a lot of images, which I don't. But, I have the account anyway so there.

I'm glad you're doing it. I see a lot of comments on Tumblr - well - on other people's Tumlblrs. I don't have one!

I'm trying to figure out what the demographic is.

I can't help but think that eventually publishers will want us to use this as yet another tool to connect with readers. I've heard it described as a cross between a tweetroll and a blog, and that's the way it looks.

I am guessing that however young the demographic is for Tumblr, it will shift older over time. How many of us had even heard of Twitter a couple of years ago? These days, folks who I used to see here or on Facebook now seem to spend most of their online time tweeting.

I like the set-up so far. Once I have more photos to post--first tomatoes of the year, a fresh-baked pie, a book cover--the overall appearance may perk up a bit.

Based on my unscientific surveys, the youth are more on Facebook than Twitter (that is, Twitter is not specifically a "youth" tool). Twitter is a thing of its own, with a differently diverse set of users. I don't know about Tumblr.

I took the plunge AND followed you.

How do you get the twitter feed to show up on one side like that?

Ah, the joys of customizing your page.

Find "Customize" on your dashboard page. You'll get a page of tabs with all your options. Under "Themes," I opted for Redux, which shows the Tweet feed on the side--I think it's the same theme that Alyx Dellamonica uses. It's in the Free section, about halfway down the sheet of choices. It may take a few minutes for the sample icons to show up, but you don't need them to make your choice.

The Services tab is where you can choose the feeds.

Appearances lets you upload the background of your choice and change colors and fonts.

Ah. I picked a theme that doesn't have a twitter feed on the side. Guess I need to pick another one!

Some incorporate the tweet feed with other blog feeds, but I like seeing them set apart.
