Printouts of late 90's Usenet posts from rec.arts.sf.written and rec.arts.sf.composition. A comment by Guy Kay on a post by Pamela Dean. Lists of agents and editors posted by Rob Sawyer. Most everyone has the Evil Overlord's Guide. I have posts of the Evil Henchman's Guide, the Hero's Guide, and How to be a Heroine, all from 1997-1998.

Photos of my first baptism (Lutheran. RC came later. Reason? [Insert your favorite bs family dynamic here]). Me at age 3 or so, astride my rocking horse. Holding a ball. A grade school photo.

A folder labeled "Quantum Cells & Consciousness," containing articles about linking brain cells to silicon chips and determination of the minimum number of genes required for life to arise.

A file labeled Ghosts. Others labeled Police/PI, Oligarchies, Speciation (Jani-era). Ideas/Info.

I was on rasfw in the late 90s, my first intro to the internets. Good times!

rasfc was golden for a time. Lois Bujold posting about the possible Miles movie. Pat Wrede and others offering advice. A great place for a wannabe to glean solid business and craft info.

I have a vague memory of it--I got internet in '96 or '97, but it was veeerrrryyyy sloooooow dialup, so my surfing wasn't nearly as extensive as it is now. I have only a vague memory of rasfw...I don't know if I ever found rasfc... and it seemed to be getting more and more contentious. I spent more time with OurKids, a site for parents of kids with disabilities, some autism-specific sites, and rec.equestrian (which easily matched rasfw for contentiousness sometimes.

rasfw could get contentious at times. As usual, the same few folks always seemed to be responsible.

rasfc was fun for a year, year and a half. I don't know what happened, but the pros, both writers and editors, stopped posting. IIRC, Pat Wrede was taken to task at least once by a newbie/wannabe who had no idea who she was and lectured her about some craft or business point or other. At some point, it stopped being fun.

"At some point, it stopped being fun."

True of so many things, alas. And certainly, being smacked by the ignorant for the knowledge one has painfully accumulated takes a lot of the fun out of it. I've left several writing=related sites because invariably there's someone (or several) who'd rather snipe and sneer than learn. They know it all already. Bleh.

All these things are proof...

All these things are proof that I need more interesting files.

I should dig into these files more, because there's some decent stuff in there.

Unfortunately, given the age, much of the info is out of date.
