Am I the only one who has trouble seeing the Ood on an icy cold world? I see that cephalopod head, and think tropical, or at least temperate. Wouldn't they lose a lot of heat through that bare head? I'm not even considering the exposed brain thing. Evolutionary advantage how?

Going to stop thinking about it now.

My guess is that their world hasn't always been that way -- they are supposed to be a very old race -- or that this isn't their home world, only their current home world....

Their background/history isn't well-explained. What is presented just has me confused. It doesn't matter as far as the story is concerned. But from a strictly biological POV, I think the Ood miss the mark.

Of course we're picky biological SF writers....
