The dustballs that would remain intact under normal circumstances sort of...explode into fine particles that settle. Everywhere.
Suffice it to say that my kitchen received an unplanned washdown this evening.
I cleaned the coils, which you are apparently supposed to do every few months. Monthly, if you have indoor cats or dogs. I had vacuumed the protective grid in front every so often, but never did an in-depth pop all the plates and cleancleanclean. The fridge had been sounding noisy lately, and I was concerned.
Oh why not--everyone else did. I probably would have, too, if I hadn't been me at the time.
The room looked smoke-filled.
No one was hurt. And the fan, compressor, and coils are clean. And the fridge is running quieter. And I'll wash the spatulas and serving spoons and the knives in the block on the counter when I need them.

(Personally, I figure that dirt I can't see doesn't really exist. It would never occur to me to try to clean under my refrigerator.)

It is running quieter now.
