Busy day. Grocery shopping and other errands. Work in the garage.

Over the last couple of weeks, my Hamilton Beach Brew Station coffeemaker seemed to be winding down. I've been having to add more and more coffee to get a decent brew, and cleaning didn't improve matters. I thought about getting a new one, since I like a smaller coffeemaker, and models that do a decent job brewing smaller amounts are hard to find. Over the years, I've tried Krups and Cuisinart and Mr Coffee--you name it. All proved fair to middling, but none knocked my socks off.

Enter my balsamic vinegar addiction. The syrupy brand that I've taken a liking to is sold by Williams Sonoma, but isn't offered online. So I ventured to the nearest store, intending to get my vinegar and get the hell out. In this store, the vinegars are located at the back, and one passes the small appliance display along the way.

You know where this is going.

I'd read great reviews of Technivorm Moccamasters. They're handmade. They're supposedly sturdy. They heat water to the perfect temperature, and spray it over the grounds to ensure everything gets soaked. Cooks Illustrated loves them. Online coffee stores love them. The W-S store had one set up and brewing, and I was able to sample a cup of coffee.

So I am now the owner of a KB-741. Still trying to settle on the right amount of coffee per cup, but the stuff does taste good.

I also got my vinegar. And an herb keeper. That was enough damage for the foreseeable future.

Cleaned and vacuumed and rearranged in the garage. Expected to find an ex-mouse curled up in some corner, and instead caught sight of a living mouse, which I assumed to be Bourne, scuttling along the perimeter. I found it huddled at the bottom of the garden tool trolley, which was one of the few hiding places I hadn't cleaned, and wheeled it outside and released it. It may return. I may need to set a variety of traps, since it has defeated and/or ignored a couple of different types. Not sure if it can get back inside the garage--I've plugged all the access holes with steel wool, and closed and locked the doors. And now Kuro is back in his room. It's supposed to rain tonight, so I hope he appreciates the effort.

Watching Goblet of Fire. Moaning Myrtle is a perv, isn't she?
