A couple of months ago, I unearthed a set of pale sage green flannel sheets that Mom gave me years ago. I didn't use them for some time because I felt them too warm, but this winter they're a go. I've used them for the last month or so, and have been washing them and putting them right back on the bed. I don't even want to think about regular sheets right now. But I also don't want to wear out these sheets, so.

The set was from Lands End, so this evening I checked out the site to see what was available. Found a set on sale. Chili pepper red. 40% discount with the code I found on the website.

Happy. And warm.

That does sound nice and warm.

My bedroom temp is usually 58-60F at night, and the flannel sheets and a comforter are enough. The comforter is from Lands End as well. I like their bedding because it's generously sized. I don't pull shoulder muscles wrestling the fitted sheet on the mattress.

I became addicted to flannel sheets some years back--the first time I knew such things existed, I was in a B&B during a writers' workshop in the NE. And it was COLD to my centex sensibilities. And the sheets were SO soft and SO nice...

Now I have several sets, but I need another, because one set is pretty much sheer at this point.

I love the red shades.

The chili pepper looks like vermilion, which is nice and warming. I also liked cordovan, which looked like a deep burgundy shade, but there were no king-size pillowcases to match.

I like a deeper red than vermilion (because I use flannel sheets even in summer now...it's the softness I prize and the fact that they're never slick and chilly. But orangey reds in summer in Texas...just not a great idea. I should go to blues in summer, probably.)

The burgundy are my favs, when I can find them.

I use flannel sheets year round as well, for exactly the same reason. They are so soft. I prefer the green, blue to purple range myself.

Red has always been my favorite color. When I was a child, I wanted red sheets (which weren't available) and my mother tried to dye some sheets red for me. They came out dark pink--better than nothing, but not really red. Then...red sheets began to be available, and when I found them in flannel I was delighted.

I also like dark blue sheets and have one set of navy flannel. Don't like pastels, don't like flowered.

Purple for me. Whenever I find purple of any shade or hue (except pale orchidy things) I buy them. I agree on the flowered ones, flowers are for the garden or paintings not sheets.

Huh. I put my L.E. flannel sheets last week when the nightime lows were down in the teens. They survive year after year, wash after wash. I'll have to check out the sale--it never hurts to have another set in reserve.

My LE comforter is multicolor paisley--sage green, white and cream, orange, and deeper reds like vermilion. Very bold, but shaded well away from the blue range of the spectrum. I didn't want white sheets, and the cream looked too blah. My pale sage sheets work well with this, as well as with my Marimekko (sp?) comforter, which is striped but pretty much the same palette. The chili pepper sheets will also work with both comforters.

I bought the 5 oz sheets. I read that they can pill sooner than the 6 oz, but I am pretty sure my green set is the 5oz, and they still look good. There were more color options with the 5 oz.

There's a sale until tomorrow--40% off the most expensive item you buy for orders over $75 plus free shipping. I placed two orders last night--in addition to the sheets, I bought a set of towels and a raincoat--and got the discount for both orders.
