...I'd have asked for tomorrow and Friday off. Two full weeks. Makes a dent in the allotted vacation time, but at least I'd go into work not feeling quite so...blah.

Picked up the puppies this morning. All was well until Mickey bounded into the house with a bleeding foot. See Kris jump. See Kris jump into the car and drive to walgreens for first aid supplies.

Apparently Mickelodeon tore a nail. I washed and bandaged his foot, then kept him inside for the rest of the day. As of this moment, the nail is still intact. Bleeding has stopped. I've calmed down. Felt too frazzled to do something useful like taxes. Instead I read Ian Rankin's LET IT BLEED, an Inspector Rebus mystery. Hell of a good book.

I bought several books during the Festival. Along with two Rankins, a mystery antho edited by Ed Gorman, a true crime antho edited by Lawrence Block, AN EYE FOR MURDER by Chicago author Libby Fischer Hellmann, and PUBLICIZE YOUR BOOK by Jacqueline Deval. I also bought some lovely stationery from a place called Small Meadow Press, paper printed with Jane Austen quotations and mystery notecards. Very nice stuff.

Glad to hear you had such a good time, and sorry that you have to go back to work today.

I have dogs and birds, all of which can break or tear nails, though none have yet. My vet once reccommended that I keep some stiptic around for just such emergencies. Especially for the birds, who quite honestly do not like to hold still when they see those dog nail clippers coming their way.

The groomer at the kennel did a pretty good job of trimming King's nails. They had grown pretty long, and I was reluctant to try to cut them myself because the vet told me the quicks were pretty long and I didn't want to risk cutting one.

Mickey is still licking the injury site, but it seems to be healing. He stood by the back door and whimpered when I took King out for a solo walk, but I didn't want to risk him retearing the wound or irritating it with dirt or somesuch. Now he's a little wound up because he didnt have his playtime. Oh well. Better a restless dog than a bleeding one.

Just give him a little extra attention to make up for the walk and he'll be fine.
