Anyone else getting friended by folks whose blogs are either blank, filled with gibberish, or written in Russian? I know LJ is based at least partially in Russia now and has a Russian service, but these things are coming in bunches and I'm wondering if they're spam.

I've noticed a bunch of new friends, but haven't had time to check any of their blogs out. There are some gorgeous photos from people on the nature photography community from all over the world--including some Russian ones.

I've noticed a Russian or two on the list. Blank blogs have been around for years -- some of them are real people, some aren't.

I've also received comments consisting of generic wording complimenting the post: "Oh, this is so interesting. I look forward to further discussion." There's usually a link at the bottom, which I do not click. I block the commenters and report them as spam.

I got a flurry of those oh, a year ago. I asked my (Russian) daughter-in-law if the handle was anyone she knew, on the first one, and it wasn't, so I dumped it and all subsequent ones. If any of her friends want to friend me she's going to have to give me the heads-up beforetimes.

I wonder why these surges of this stuff...?

I've been friended by a few russian ones, but when I check usually they haven't made a single post & look more like someone set up a 'bot to friend people at random. I don't friend 'em back & usually within a week the account gets deleted.

I got a Russian one that isn't a blank blog, but is entirely in Cyrillic and I have no idea what it says. It does appear to be a legit blog, I guess. It has a bunch of friends to it, and has friended some 900+ folks, several of whom are in common with me.

So, er, I have no idea.
