"sum-- They played the elo"

It brought to mind a folk instrument.

Sum--they played the elo
And sum--they played the spoons
And sum--they played the fiddle
By the light of the cold fall moon

I love this. LOVE this. Do you hear the elo as a wind instrument (something like panpipes or a flute?) That's what I'm hearing.

It is a pipe/flute-like instrument. A skilled player can make it wail like an animal or sing like a woman.

It's a John the Balladeer setting. The remote areas of the Appalachians. A few scattered spots in the Ozarks. Old songs, sung in old English.

I am actually wondering if I can do anything with this, because it is nicely spooky.
