Alone in Kyoto

Air is one of my favorite groups. Soft electronica...at least, I think of it as electronica. I can write to it, or just listen and enjoy. That said, not all their albums work for me--not crazy about the Virgin Suicides soundtrack, not one bit. But the albums that work, really work. Talkie Walkie is my favorite, I think, and Alone in Kyoto is my favorite track.

I don't often like the live versions of songs more than the studio recordings, but in this case I will make an exception. I tripped over this live performance of Alone over at TBogg, and oh how I hope I can find downloadable audio. I just love it.

When I listen to it...I'm walking down a city street. Light rain falls. The sun is setting, and the sky, the buildings, the sidewalks have a yellowish cast, neon signs of shops and restaurants reflected in the wet. I don't know where I'm going. I'm alone. No one's expecting me. I'm just walking.

I do like that song.

It's a nice CD. Some of the lyrics are kinda ?huh?, but the melodies are very nice.
