Undissipated skunk spray smells a lot like burning rubber tires.

I did not expect to have to google "dog skunk smell remove" at 230 in the morning.

Some people use Listerine. Others use a solution of 3% peroxide, baking soda, and dish soap. Both work to some extent.

Febreeze. Odor neutralizing candles. A nearby groomer with an available appointment.

It could have been worse.

Home from the groomer:

Oh, man. Between the smoke last night and the skunk today, your nose has definitely been assaulted lately!

My eyes itched, and my throat was a little raw. Throw in tired, and you had the makings of a long morning.

Herself seems none the worse for it...although I did notice that she returned quickly from last night's bathroom breaks. No lurking in the yard. We'll see how long that lasts. I would hate to think that this experience dented her iron-clad sense of GABY! OTOH, fear of the skunk is a good thing. She was hit square in the face, and spent a good 10-15 minutes rubbing her face in the grass to get the stuff off. I couldn't get hold of her--she just wanted that crap off.

Such, I am led to understand, is life with a dog. It sounds like it could have been much worse but just getting the face full was bad enough.

We've had SKUNK! wafting around our neighborhood several times lately. I would like an email address for the critter, as I could suggest several worthwhile targets.

The groomer told that tis the season. Is it because they're foraging for food? They mate in late winter, according to search info, so whatever's going on, it's not mating hormones on edge.

They're working on Fashionable Fall Fat, to make it through the winter, and also scouting out territory for winter dens. If you actually see one, it will waddle.

I hope that pleasure may be indefinitely postponed.

I have windfall crabapples in my yard. That's probably what attracted it.
