almost Friday
Aug. 12th, 2010 08:42 pmA productive week, in some ways.
Went to my day job's salvage department today to pick up a framed poster I won at one of their auctions. While I was there, I did something I had thought about doing for a couple of years, and looked at the office chairs. I've been halfway looking for a new home office chair for a while. Some folks swear by Aerons, but the price--even used--stopped me short. When it came to Herman Miller, Ergon 3 was the model I was familiar with. I think I even sat in a few over the years. It's a basic-looking chair, nothing flashy.
They didn't have much in stock. Some folks stop by daily, others weekly, and the really nice stuff goes fast. But I found two decent highback Ergon 3s, a subdued multicolor print w/o adjustable arms and a medium blue with. The hydraulics work, they're nice and comfy, and I paid $40 each for a model that ranges anywhere from $800-$1100 retail. The multicolored one has a scuff on the back, and they are older models. But they're good enough, they should last a while, and I saved a boatload.
Tomatoes continue to grow. I really overplanted the raised bed, as you can see. But there are some HUGE greenies that are a week or two from ripening, and I have two lunch sack-size bags under the sink with Romas and Crims. One of the basils is close to 3-feet tall, and the peppers, which I had pretty much given up on, all have flowers.

I'm going to give cold-brewed coffee a try. I saw some mentions of the Toddy system on Twitter yesterday, looked into it, and decided to give it a shot. My small Brewmaster is leaking more and more and will replacing sooner rather than later, and every so often coffee give me heartburn. Aaaaand I like to try new things, and I like the idea of making several days' worth of coffee in one shot. So we'll see how it goes.
Weather's been hotter than hell, and muggy. No cool off expected until next weekI realize September is just around the corner and the cold will be here soon enough, but this heat can say bye-bye anytime now.

Date: 2010-08-13 05:42 pm (UTC)It's really hard to get fibrous stuff clean... I've done some cultures as part of biology labs, and they're astonishing. Most published studies match up pretty well with my personal results, or are lots worse.
And yeah, it's a concern coz while I don't drink coffee much or at all myself... my MIL's coffee can definitely be the kinda stuff that upsets your gut but good. So I'd rather have something that I can wash and have it come clean.
