This case is the bomb (does anyone say "such and such is the bomb anymore? Oh well. I'm saying it. Groovy, man.).

Anyway. I can set it up like an easel on my lap whilst sitting on the couch or lying in bed. When I read, it's like having a book on a lap stand. All I have to do is turn the page. It's not real leather, but it's nice looking and sturdy. For the money, very hard to beat.

I haven't tried out the wireless keyboard yet. It's the Apple wireless standard. Not foldable, but small enough that it would be able to fit in a smallish laptop bag. I haven't tried the Word app yet, although I was able to download and open an Excel spreadsheet with the Excel for the iPad app.

I'm liking the iPad more and more. If I find I can write/edit on it, that will make it like a netbook. That would be neat. Cool. Wild, man, wild.

The bee's knees, iow.

I have Word and Firefox working on my new Shiny but don't have Thunderbird working right yet. This is the new unimproved Word 2010, which starts out in some off-the-wall font. I wrestled it into Times Roman, found and disabled all its "I know what you meant so I'm changing your words" smartass stuff that I could find on first run-through.

Firefox went in, turned around three times, and was working flawlessly. T-bird's new version's guesses at how the account hosts wanted their servers represented wasn't anywhere near good enough, and it's arguing with me about my manual entries, so...there's a wee tad of strain there. Tomorrow. Little Red Riding Hood needs to sleep tight in Grandma's house, getting her battery topped up.

I Googled LRRH--what a pretty shiny!

I am surprised that Word's default wasn't TNR. It's been TNR since I can recall.

I don't have all the websurfing/document handling issues worked out with this iPad. I'm sure it can do more better, and that I am not a skilled operator. Yet.

I should sign up for an iPad class at the Apple Store. Not time at the moment. Maybe next month...

I hope Apple and the companies selling these extras give you a commission, because my will is sapping more quickly than I thought.

Over on her FB page, Laura Anne Gilman mentioned that Apple was going to be releasing/considering releasing/I forget which/ a smaller iPad designed to function primarily as an ebook reader (as opposed to a media player). My !Want! genes perked up at that, but to be honest I like this current iPad size. I read in landscape mode, two pages at a time. I *love* the embedded dictionary function. Like I said, I haven't tried full-blown writing and porting of files, but if it works well for that, it's a netbook. The ony question will be if I decide to upgrade and bite the 4G bullet.

I think the phrase you want is "da bomb". And I can't say as I've heard it used much lately.
