Shutout yes, pasting no. 12-0 would be a pasting...

I had seen so many lower scores to this point that I wasn't sure whether 4 goals against was a lot, or just a lot for a World Cup match, or just a lot for this particular World Cup.

It may not be a pasting proper, but it is definitely embarrassing for the losing team. 4 is on the high end of typical for scoring.

Some folks on another list were rooting for Germany because Argentina's coach or advisor or whoever--Maradona?--was so arrogant. Guess they got their wish.

They're thinking Germany will win it. They were so dominating.

I wish I had seen the game, I heard it was a brilliant team effort on Germany's part.

I don't know the game well at all, but Germany scored within the first minute or so, and the hits just kept on coming.

It's a whuppin', but not a shellackin'.

They need to post a list of definitions. Whuppin' = lost by 4- 5 goals. Shellackin' = lost by 6 or 7. Utter humiliation? Gutting? It would make things so much more clear.
