The iMac is back, oh yes. Atop the nicely-cleaned desk, wireless keyboard and mouse in place. Here's hoping that this is it for hardware meltdowns and we're set with systems for several years to come.
Current ENDGAME word total, about 300 words shy of 30K. Deleted about as much as I wrote last night, which is irritating but necessary. Even more irritating was how much I repeated myself in the stuff I did delete. Gee, said the same thing four-five different ways. Time to settle back into linear writing mode because this skipping around stuff just wasn't working. But it did get me started, so I guess I shouldn't quibble.
The weather is drear, drear, drear, cold, foggy, and drizzly. I would rather it rain and get it over with, or clear up and get *cold* again. This middlin' stuff isn't very pleasant. It's just warm and wet enough to reactivate the allergies--my throat, ears, eyes and nose itch, my chest is a little congested, and I feel rundown. There were times today that I felt I was coming down with a cold, and I really hope to avoid that. I haven't been sick yet this winter, and I would like to avoid any infectious episodes if at all possible.
Let's see...17 years ago tonight, we had a fire at the current abode. The closing had taken place two weeks prior, and the inspection hadn't revealed the fact that the fireplace had been improperly built. No brick behind the firebox, which was instead flush against the insulation and frame. Some flames fromt he fire licked through gaps in the mortar, and that was almost all she wrote. Five more minutes, the fire chief told my Dad, and we would have lost the house.
I learned a great deal about insurance companies over the next year or so. Suffice it to say that I now have 12 inches of brick behind that firebox, and I paid for about 11.5 inches of it.
Oh well, time to get to book work. I can't shake the feeling that today is Friday. Then I realize that it's Thursday, and I still have three days off. Yes!
