  • 07:52:13: Found 5-minute bathroom clean-up in Real Simple. Gave it a try. 45 minutes later...
  • 09:22:41: @jsmithready Are you sure it wasn't Geithner?
  • 11:20:29: @emoontx Oh, which mixer??
  • 12:07:28: @emoontx The Artisan is what I want. Should be powerful enough, tho some folks rec the Pro, with the more powerful motor.
  • 12:54:52: Schizo weather day. Sunshine, then showers a minute later. Cold. I hate this.
  • 13:36:34: @emoontx I'll work, too. Then you won't be alone!
  • 13:54:45: The lawn guys just swooped through. 45 minutes, and the yard is done. Off and on showers, but they kept working. Looks great.
  • 18:32:23: @jsmithready Probably not...
  • 18:32:56: @emoontx I will check.

Kristine - I don't mean to horn in on a person's "private" Tweets, but have you checked out user reviews of that mixer? I have one of the domestic ones, not the commerical-grade one, and it started leaking oil - right into the bowl! I looked at reviews at several web sites, and not only is this a chronic problem with the newer (since 1970? or so) Kitchen Aid mixers, it turns out their gears are PLASTIC, and strip quite easily when trying to use it for bead dough or cookie dough. Even the heavy-duty models. I'm going to get rid of mine while it's still working, and probably won't replace it. I have a perfectly usable hand-held mixer. But that's just me.

Just an FYI.

No worries--is anything private on the 'net? *g*

I had read reviews on Cooks Illustrated. They thought the Artisan lacked power, and preferred the Pro. I haven't heard or read anything about leaks. One of my friends has had a KitchenAid stand mixer for twenty years, and it's still fine afaik.

Thanks for the heads-up. I would like to get a nice stand mixer at some point. I thought I had a lime green Artisan, but the eBay seller has yet to send it--never buying on eBay again, but that's another story. I'll give it a couple of months before I look into buying one, which will allow more time for research. I have a hand-held KitchenAid mixer which frankly can't handle much, so I will be getting something new at some point, and I would like a stand mixer so my hands are free.

Yes, several reviews I saw said their mothers had had a KA stand mixer for many years and it worked just fine - at some point since then the company started using plastic gears instead of metal ones, and that's when it all went south, apparently. What a surprise, eh? But the company's stock got to skate on its former good reputation for a few years and that's all that counts, right?
