a little sad

A couple of months ago, I spotted a pair of Canadas wandering along the edge of the expressway I usually take on the way to work. It's a short stretch of expressway, but people do speed up once they turn onto it.

A couple of weeks ago, I was on the way to work when I spotted a spray of feathers on the road. It was one of the Canadas, killed by a car.

Now, most every day, I see the other Canada feeding or sitting by the side of the road. I know they supposedly mate for life, but it will find another goose to keep company with, won't it? Eventually?

It saddens me every time I see that poor thing.

It's a pity that it's in such a dangerous place, but according to Konrad Lorenz (King Soloman's Ring) it should eventually mate again, if it survives.
